All up, 100's of Australian-made vehicles leave IVECO’s plant each year, providing direct employment to over 150 manufacturing workers and a similar amount of people across local engineering and product development, product support, sales and marketing functions. As well as these direct jobs, IVECO has strong links to a broader nationwide supply chain of over 200 businesses, resulting in employment for hundreds more Australian manufacturing workers.

Despite the demise of the Australian automotive manufacturing industry over recent years, IVECO stands committed to local commercial vehicle manufacturing and the broader economy.

Investment in the future

In great news for Australian manufacturing workers and truck buyers, this year, IVECO is investing millions of dollars in its Melbourne manufacturing facility, ensuring its long-term viability to supply Australian made trucks and buses to local and New Zealand markets. The investment allows IVECO to locally-develop a range of sophisticated new EURO 6 models for our markets, designed to meet stringent emissions requirements not yet even mandated by Government in Australia.

The introductions of the EURO 6 models positions IVECO as having one of the cleanest vehicles ranges available in Australia, and is in keeping with the company’s corporate tagline: ‘Your Partner for Sustainable Transport’.

As well as new tooling and equipment, existing IVECO manufacturing workers are being upskilled to the latest manufacturing practices and are enjoying a more diverse range of job roles.

Through its parent company CNH Industrial, one of the world’s leading industrial products companies operating 64 plants world-wide, IVECO is able to draw on this expertise to introduce a best practice environment and procedures here, to help the company produce World-class trucks and buses effectively and efficiently.

As well as supporting Australian workers and ensuring that this important vehicle manufacturing industry knowledge and infrastructure remains part of this country’s skillset for the future, there are also many tangible benefits for IVECO customers.

Being locally-made provides owners a lot of flexibility and allows for greater customisation and faster availability of vehicles.

IVECO can be extremely responsive to customer needs and can value-add by offering services such as painting down the line to suit customer fleet livery – all this in-house process provides a faster delivery time while remaining very cost competitive.

For customers, a more efficient build process means a more cost effective buying proposition and a faster build, so the truck is out working and earning money sooner.

The fully imported models marketed by competitors provide a limited choice, and anything that a buyer requires that doesn’t fit a template needs to be organised at additional cost with a local body builder and involves a longer build process.

In comparison, locally-built IVECOs can be modified on the production line to suit the truck’s intended application; bolt holes and other fastening points can be customised as can the positioning of auxiliary components such as fuel, air tanks, exhaust systems and other similar items.

Fit-for-task and Australian conditions

Unlike many competing models, the locally-produced IVECOs are specifically-designed and developed for Australian conditions and our unique market requirements – there are no compromises.

For peace of mind, IVECO owners should know that there are 25 local engineers heavily involved in local research and development work, to ensure all vehicles are fit-for-task prior to being launched in our market.

Prior to launch, IVECO puts its products through extensive in-field testing over hundreds of thousands of kilometres, in real world conditions through internal and in customer fleet trials to ensure all vehicles will surpass customer expectations once available for purchase.
