RED BULL HOLDEN RACING TEAM

The Red Bull Holden Racing Team is one of the most successful and professional teams in Australian Supercars history, having won four Drivers’ Championships and five Teams Championships over the last six seasons. Based in Brisbane, the team is spearheaded by Aussie Jamie Whincup, who has the most wins of any Supercars driver. Add to this, seven Drivers’ titles and four Bathurst 1000 wins.

Teammate, Kiwi Shane Van Gisbergen is the perfect partner for Jamie and has developed a reputation for a spectacular driving style that sees him leave nothing in the garage. Shane was the Drivers’ Champion in 2016 and finished runner-up in 2018.

Ensuring the drivers’ racecars and associated equipment safely arrive at the track for each round are a pair of flagship IVECO AS-L prime movers, hauling B-Double trailers. The trucks are rated at 560hp and 2300 Nm and have a 90 tonne GCM, providing the team with all the power and carrying capacity to comfortably handle all its transport and logistics requirements.

DRIVER PROFILE

  • What’s your nickname?
    J-Dub

At what age did you first start competing in motorsport?
I started racing when my father bought me my first Go Kart at age 7.  The sport was always a hobby and something to fill in the weekend until I turned professional, getting picked up by a V8 Supercar team in 2002.  I have since then enjoyed a long and successful career in what’s now known as Virgin Australian Supercars Championship.

    What was your first car?
It was a baby blue VH Commodore that was handed down to me by my grandfather who decided to stop driving at the same time.

What are your hobbies outside of motorsport?
I really love all things on the water, in particular wakeboarding and jet skiing.  On an odd weekend off you will find me on the Gold Coast Broadwater or on the Murray River over the summer break.

Do you hold any licenses other than car?
I do.  The first license I got was my pen license back in grade 1.  I now have my motorbike, boat, jet ski and multi combination (MC) truck license.  Bus and helicopter licenses are up next.

How important is the IVECO AS-Ls to the team?
At Red Bull Holden Racing Team, we like to surround ourselves with team partners with common goals.  Some of these are working towards engineering excellence and striving to be market leaders, both of which IVECO share very heavily.  When choosing a brand of prime mover to deliver our A and B trailers to the race track safely, reliability and after sale service is what we look for, which is another reason why we chose IVECO.

  • What’s your nickname?
    SVG

At what age did you first start competing in motorsport?
I started when I was 8 on quad bikes. Then I won a scholarship when I was 14 out of a magazine – it was my second go at it. It was for a season in the Formula First category in New Zealand.

    What was your first car?
My first car was a 1987 Toyota Starlet – it did 125km in second gear. It lasted me six months...

What are your hobbies outside of motorsport?
Watching motorsport – anything motorsport! 😊

Do you hold any licenses other than car?
    Nope – just the car.

What’s your favourite round of the supercar series?
My favourite round of the supercar series is New Zeland - I get to sleep in my own bed and mum cooks me dinner.

How important is the IVECO AS-Ls to the team?
We rely on IVECO to deliver our trailers to the race track safely. They’re reliable, just ask Wazzy (truck driver)!
